  • How are you paid?

Our firm operates on a contingency fee basis. We receive a percentage of any recovery made for the client, typically one-third (1/3). We're also reimbursed for any necessary costs advanced during the case, such as police photographs or medical records. These advanced costs don't include regular business expenses like photocopying.
  • Will I have to pay out of my pocket for anything?

You won't need to pay anything upfront. Our fees and expenses are only collected if we secure a recovery for you. If there's no recovery, you owe us nothing, including any advanced expenses. In most cases where a lawsuit isn't filed, these expenses are minimal or non-existent.
  • How long do I have to file an auto accident claim?

The time limit varies depending on your situation. Generally, you have two years from the last no-fault benefit payment for third-party claims. For wrongful death cases, it's one year. Claims for uninsured or underinsured motorist benefits must be filed within one year. Motorcycle accidents without no-fault coverage may have a one-year limit. Given the potential variations, it's advisable to contact our office to ensure you're within the statute of limitations.
  • Will you meet me in my home or another location?

We offer the convenience of meeting you at your preferred location. Many of our clients request appointments at their homes or workplaces, and we're glad to accommodate these requests.
  • How long does it take to resolve my claim?

The duration varies depending on your case. We typically aim to resolve claims after you've reached maximum medical improvement, which can take a year or more. Cases settled before a lawsuit is filed often resolve within 6-12 months of hiring us. If a lawsuit is necessary, it usually takes about a year to reach the trial date. However, most cases (over 90%) settle without going to trial.
  • If a lawsuit is filed, how do I participate?

Your involvement includes providing information to your attorney, attending a deposition where you answer questions from opposing counsel, participating in mediation for settlement discussions, and attending the trial if necessary. You'll also be involved in decision-making regarding settlement offers or demands.
  • How are you different from other personal injury lawyers?

We prioritize direct communication, providing you with your attorney's personal cell phone number. With over 40 years of experience in motor vehicle accident claims, we ensure personalized attention to your case. Attorney Matt Troutman involves you in key decisions, recognizing that the claim belongs to you. We focus on understanding and achieving your objectives rather than treating the claim as our own.
  • Do I have to file a lawsuit to make a claim for personal injury related to a motor vehicle accident?

Filing a lawsuit isn't mandatory for making a claim. We initially pursue an informal claim with the at-fault driver's insurance company. A lawsuit is only considered if the insurance company refuses to pay or offers an unreasonable amount. The decision to file a lawsuit always remains yours, and we won't proceed without your permission.
  • If I have a question, what is the best way to communicate with you?

You can reach us via phone (including text messages) or email. Attorney Matt Troutman is also willing to meet at your home or workplace if needed. We strive to keep you well-informed throughout the process, reducing the need for frequent inquiries. You'll have direct access to Matt Troutman without intermediaries like secretaries or paralegals.
